A Day of Mental Health and Wellness

One character in Disney Pixar’s WALL-E once said: “I don’t want to survive! I want to live!” The remarkable movie gives us so much realization; one of which is not to merely survive life, but to truly live it. We have come to do our own several means of living life, including the practice of saying never mind to the things that bother us, may it be our deep thoughts, strong feelings, or varied emotions; for we believe that they hinder us from living our lives, without us realizing that doing so would hitch ourselves to the thought of neither surviving nor living, but rather ending it. Thus, someone who wants to truly live his or her life must face the aridity and live with the quotation:

“Never say never mind.”

On July 10, 2018, the Central Visayas Cluster composed of the three DC institutions (Saint Louise de Marillac College of Bogo, Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion – Mandaue City, and the host school: Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion – Cebu City) gathered together to take part in living such quotation through different fun-filled, relaxing and placid activities that were launched all in one day in CIC-Cebu from 8:00AM – 4:30PM. All activities of the day were prepared by the ever vigorous and lovely counselors of the cluster, headed by the Cluster VP for External Services and Student Services Mrs. Ann Carmel Rama. The fun-packed day started with the registration outside Mary’s Little Theatre, followed by the programme which began with a prayer led by Mr. Socrates Yares. After which, Sr. Maria Luisa Javier, DC, the Cluster President expressed her welcome address and her delight in seeing all Personnel, ready to give themselves breather through awareness and recreations. Ms. May Pascual, the Human Resource Director, then took charge in introducing the speaker, Dr. Glenda Basubas, M.D., who with her team, shared her expertise in the cluster wellness session on: Mental Health and Wellness, which culminated with an open forum actively partaken by the LaMPs (Lay Mission Partners). Everyone was compensated for their active participation through a sumptuous free lunch, making everybody ready for the exciting activities in the afternoon. Each was given a chance to choose what means of relaxation he or she would like to have. From 1:00 – 3:00PM, the LaMPs went to the areas where their chosen activities were being held. The simultaneous activities to which the LAMPs enjoyed include movie watching, catnapping, adult coloring activity, karaoke, massage, and volleyball. The said activities were followed with an ice cream, peanuts, biko and coffee treat. After the treat, all were again gathered at the grounds for the thrilling cluster games facilitated by the counselors. The winners received their prizes immediately after the games. Zumba, led by the CIC-Cebu MAPEH and TLE Team culminated the days activity.
