In a first of its kind move to unify efforts for rejuvenation and rehabilitation of Cebu’s watershed areas and in response to the sacred call for environmental stewardship (Pope Francis’ Laudato Si), a tripartite Memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed on July 21, 2017. This is in the line with the implementation of the Adopt-a-Hectare Project at identified areas of riparian zone and vulnerable patches of the land within Barangay Camp 4 of Mananga Watershed Area.

The parties involved are the Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion – Cebu (CIC-Cebu), represented by its President, Sr. Maria Luisa Javier, DC; the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), represented by its Manager, Engr. Noel Dalena; and Barangay Campo Cuatro (Camp 4), represented by its Barangay captain, Mr. Saturnino Navecilla. Also present for the signing were the MCWD Assistant General Manager, Atty. George Cabrinte; MCWD staff, Environmentalist and CIC alumnus Mr. Jeffereson Benedicto; CIC VP for Administrative Services and Finance, Sr. Diana Perey, DC; VP for ARCC, Sr. Ma. Elisa Barranco, DC; Community Outreach Coordinator, Sr. Marissa dela Torre, DC; and, CICAA President Marieles Herrera.

The MOA signing was witnessed by the whole community of DC Sisters and lay mission partners (LAMPs). The tripartite agreement is also in support to Action for National Re-greening and Environmental Transformation Program and the Global Agenda for Sustainable Development. This steers our awareness for dynamic synergy to reforest hectares and to promote a vibrant and more sustainable River Basin in Central Cebu. It is tough to find support from everyone to plant and nurture trees, but CIC-Cebu community is act-ready to not just enhance but reform the social and environmental conscience through this Adopt-a-Hectare Project.
