The Daughters of Charity led by Sr. Mary Anne G. Evidente, DC, the Visitatrix of the reconfigured Province of St. Louise de Marillac - Asia and Sr. Maria Luisa B. Javier, DC, the Sister Servant of the CIC-Cebu DC Community, celebrated the Diamond Jubilee or 60 years as a Daughter of Charity of Sr. Trinidad P. Dosdos, DC last Sunday, August 14, 2016. Sunday.

Graced by the Dosdos family, the celebration that revolves on the theme “Blessed Mother, Let my Life be a Thanksgiving Forever”, was highlighted by a holy mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Amado Caballero III, CM, the director of the Daughters of Charity with Rev. Fr. Max Rendon, CM, the parish priest of San Roque Parish in Subangdaku, Mandaue and Rev. Fr. Randy Lozano, OAD, as co-celebrants. Together with the Daughters of Charity during the celebration were the CIC-Cebu alumnae, the retired and the present faculty members of CIC-Cebu and Mandaue, students, and the Marillac grantees.

The holy mass was followed by a short program of songs and dance as tribute to Sr. Trining. Two songs, the St. Louise de Marillac College of Bogo Hymn and the CIC-Cebu 1980 Centennial Hymn, the lyrics of which were written by Sr. Trining, were interpreted by the Inmaculada chorale together with the CIC-Cebu male faculty. Lunch was served with a serenade and some storytelling sessions.

Sr. Trinidad P. Dosdos, DC, fondly called Sr. Trining, grew up in Borbon, Cebu, the eldest of nine children of five girls and four boys or 11 children, counting two half-siblings. She finished her elementary years at Borbon Central School, then was transported to Cebu City to study at the then Cebu Provincial High School, which is now the Abellana National high School. She is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Education major in English at the University of San Carlos.

Sr. Trining obtained her Masters Degree in English at the same university. Her thesis was entitled “The Characteristic Features of the Short Story with Special Reference to the Post War Prized Stories of the Phil. Free Press in 1949 – 1951.”

In 1989, Sr. Trining obtained her doctor in Philosophy also at the University of San Carlos with a dissertation on “Learning and Teaching Styles in Iloilo DC Schools: Their Implications.”

It was Ms. Victoria Liao Lamco, called Ma’am Inday, a CIC-Cebu alumna and retired teacher who introduced Sr. Trining to Inmaculada. Sr. Trining was accepted as an English teacher when Sr. Paz San Buenaventura was the Dean of College. Her entry to CIC as a teacher decided how the rest of her life is going to be, most of which is her life a Daughter of Charity which started when she finished her masters degree.

It was in CIC-Cebu that she met, aside from Sr. Buenaventura, Sr. Matilde Romero, DC and Fr. Angulo, a Vincentian priest. The three were instrumental in Sr. Trining’s becoming a Daughter of Charity. According to Ma’am Inday, it is safe to say that Sr. Trining might have been to different places where her missions sent her, but she always brought with her, her special love for CIC-Cebu. After all, it was in CIC-Cebu that she was born as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac.

To use the words of her best friend, Ma’am Inday, “Si Sr. Trining usa ka mapaubsanon ug mapailubon nga madre.”
